Biography

Bob Johnston focuses on all aspects of intellectual property and especially on trademark, patent preparation and prosecution, licenses, intellectual property due diligence, copyrights, and trade secrets.

Bob was a partner in a large, international law firm having an intellectual property law practice in Dallas, Texas. While most of his experience has been with large firms, he has also served in-house as chief patent counsel for a technology start-up that eventually had a one billion dollar capitalization. In addition to his engineering and law degrees, he has an M.B.A. and enjoys working with entrepreneurs and companies of all sizes.

Bob Johnston is a frequent guest lecturer at Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business on intellectual property matters. He is a previous speaker at the USPTO’s Texas Regional Office Trademark Seminar and The Center for American and International Law Conference. He is a past chair of the Licensing Executive Society (LES) and is vice-chair on the Dallas Bar Associations Intellectual Property Law Section. He is an active member in the International Trademark Association (INTA), American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Licensing Executive Society (LES), the American Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Association. He has been established as Fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation and as a member of the Texas Bar College. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
